Health book for work (sanitary book)

sanitary book · health card for work · personal medical book · food handler health certificate

A document in which the results of medical exams and tests are recorded. Without it you cannot work with food or with children.

For work in catering, food retail, kindergartens, schools, healthcare and other similar jobs.

⏱ Duration: usually 1 to 3 days for the exams; test results in a few days

Be sure to tell your doctor

How to prepare

  • The set. Usually you need a visit to a general doctor, a chest X-ray, tests for intestinal infections and worms, and sometimes a skin doctor and a gynecologist. The list depends on the job. Ask the clinic.
  • Stool test. The sample is collected in a container from a pharmacy or the clinic. They will explain how to collect it.
  • Vaccinations. Sometimes your vaccinations are checked. Bring your record if you have one.

What to bring

  • Your ID
  • A photo, if the clinic requires it
  • Your vaccination record
  • Your chest X-ray from the last year, if you have it

How it goes

  1. You come to a clinic that issues these books
  2. You fill in a form
  3. You give your tests
  4. You have a chest X-ray if you do not have a recent one
  5. You see the required doctors
  6. Sometimes you take a hygiene course and a test
  7. After the test results, you are given the book with the stamps

What you'll feel

  • The exams do not hurt
  • A swab may be unpleasant but is quick

Afterwards

  • Keep the book with your employer or with you, as is usual at your workplace
  • Watch the date of your next exam
