Health check after 60

senior health check · annual wellness visit · checkup for older adults · health screening over 60

A routine health check for people over 60. The doctor checks blood pressure, blood sugar, heart, memory, vision, and fall risk.

Once a year or on schedule, to catch conditions early and adjust medicines.

⏱ Duration: usually 1 to 2 visits; test results in 1 to 3 days

Be sure to tell your doctor

How to prepare

  • Medicines. Put all your medicine packs in a bag and bring them.
  • Tests. Blood is usually taken in the morning on an empty stomach. Plain water is fine. Check with the clinic.
  • Morning medicines. Do not stop them on your own. Ask your doctor whether to take morning medicines before the tests.

What to bring

  • Your ID
  • All your medicines, or a list
  • Past test results and discharge papers
  • Glasses and a hearing aid, if you use them

How it goes

  1. You give blood and urine samples
  2. The nurse checks your blood pressure, weight, and height
  3. An ECG and other listed tests are done
  4. The doctor asks how you feel and about your medicines
  5. A few questions about memory and mood
  6. The results and plan are discussed with you

What you'll feel

  • Usually nothing unpleasant, except the needle for the blood test
  • You may get tired. Bring water and a snack

Afterwards

  • The doctor may adjust your medicines. Do not change them on your own
  • If needed, you will be referred to specialists
  • Discuss vaccines for older adults with your doctor

Common questions

Why bring all my medicines?

The doctor will check for duplicates and how they work together. This matters more with age.

Can I bring a family member?

Yes, it often helps. They can remember the doctor's advice.
