A specialist teaches correct sounds and develops speech and understanding. They work with both children and adults.
When a child says sounds poorly, started talking late, or talks little. For adults, after a stroke or injury, and for stuttering.
⏱ Duration: a session usually lasts 30 to 45 minutes; the course usually runs several months

Be sure to tell your doctor
How to prepare
- For parents. Write down what worries you about your child's speech. You can film a short video of how they talk at home.
- Your child. Come when your child has slept well and is not hungry.
What to bring
- Doctors' reports, if you have them
- A notebook for homework
- Your child's favorite toy
How it goes
- The therapist gets to know you and asks about development
- They look at how the lips and tongue move
- Games, pictures, and tasks are offered
- They note which sounds and skills need work
- You get tasks to practice at home
What you'll feel
- Nothing unpleasant. The session is like a game
- Your child may be shy at the first session. That is normal
Afterwards
- Do the home tasks a little every day
- Praise effort, and do not correct your child harshly
- Results depend on regular practice
Common questions
At what age should we see a speech therapist?
If your child barely talks at 2, it is worth a visit. Sound correction usually starts at 4 to 5.
Will it go away on its own?
Sometimes, but it is better to ask a specialist. Starting early helps progress faster.
