Psychiatrist and addiction doctor certificates
psychiatrist certificate · addiction clinic certificate · mental health clearance · certificate for driver's license
Certificates saying you are not registered with a psychiatrist or an addiction doctor. They are issued at a dispensary or at a clinic that has these doctors.
For a driver's license, a weapon permit, work, study, guardianship and other documents.
⏱ Duration: usually 15 to 60 minutes; the certificate is often given the same day

Be sure to tell your doctor
How to prepare
- Where to go. Usually a dispensary where you are registered, or a licensed clinic. Check in advance where they see patients and at what hours.
- The day before. Do not drink alcohol for at least a day. The addiction doctor may ask you to blow into a device or give a urine sample.
- Medicines. Do not stop on your own. If you take sedatives or strong painkillers, tell the doctor.
What to bring
- Your ID
- A referral or form, if you were given one at work or at driving school
- A photo, if asked. Check with the clinic
How it goes
- You register at the front desk
- You are checked in the registry database
- The doctor has a short talk with you and asks questions
- The addiction doctor sometimes asks for an alcohol test or a urine sample
- You receive a stamped certificate
What you'll feel
- An ordinary conversation, with no unpleasant procedures
- You may feel nervous. That is normal, and the questions are standard
Afterwards
- Check your name, the date and the purpose on the certificate
- Find out how long the certificate is valid. It varies
- If it was not given right away, ask when to pick it up
Common questions
If I once saw a psychiatrist, will I be refused a certificate?
Not necessarily. The doctor decides, and much depends on whether you are registered and why.
Can I get both certificates at one clinic?
Often yes, if the clinic has both doctors and the right license. Check in advance.
