Military enlistment office medical board

military office medical board · draft board · military medical commission · medical exam for the army

Several doctors examine you at the military enlistment office and decide whether you are fit for service on health grounds.

When registering for military records, being called up, joining contract service or a military college.

⏱ Duration: usually half a day or a day; the decision comes on the day of the board or later

Be sure to tell your doctor

How to prepare

  • Documents. Gather discharge summaries, reports and scans for all your illnesses. Without them it is hard for doctors to take an illness into account.
  • Tests. Tests and a chest X-ray are often done in advance on a referral from the enlistment office. Ask there.
  • The day before. Get enough sleep and do not drink alcohol.

What to bring

  • Your passport
  • Your summons or referral
  • Medical documents about your illnesses
  • Test results, if you were asked for them

How it goes

  1. You come to the enlistment office at the set time
  2. You fill out a form
  3. You see the doctors one by one: general doctor, surgeon, neurologist, psychiatrist, eye doctor, ENT, dentist and others
  4. Your height, weight and blood pressure are measured and your vision is checked
  5. If needed, you are sent for further tests
  6. The board decides your fitness

What you'll feel

  • The exams are painless
  • It may take long and be tiring because of queues

Afterwards

  • You are told your fitness category
  • If you were sent for further tests, complete them on time
  • The decision can be appealed as the law allows
