IPL photo-rejuvenation (pigment, redness)

photo-rejuvenation · IPL · light therapy for skin · pigmentation removal with light · spider vein treatment

A machine shines bright flashes of light on your skin. The light lightens dark spots and reduces redness and small blood vessels.

For dark spots, freckles, redness of the face and thread veins.

⏱ Duration: the procedure usually takes 20 to 40 minutes, and a course usually has several sessions

Be sure to tell your doctor

How to prepare

  • Sun. Usually no sun or tanning bed for 2 to 4 weeks before. Ask the clinic.
  • Skin. Come without makeup or self-tanner.
  • Medicines. Do not stop them on your own. Tell the doctor everything you take.

What to bring

  • Your ID
  • A list of your medicines

How it goes

  1. Your skin is cleaned
  2. You put on protective goggles
  3. A cool gel is applied to your skin
  4. The doctor places the device head and flashes of light fire
  5. The gel is removed and a soothing cream and sunscreen are applied

What you'll feel

  • A flash feels like a rubber band snap and warmth
  • Afterwards the skin is red, usually for a few hours
  • Spots first get darker and then flake off in 1 to 2 weeks

Afterwards

  • Do not pick off the darkened crusts - they will fall off on their own
  • Use sunscreen every day
  • Usually no bath house, peels or scrubs for a few days
  • The next session is at the time your doctor sets

Contact a doctor straight away if

  • Blisters, weeping skin or a burn
  • Severe pain that grows
  • White or very dark patches that were not there before - see your doctor

Common questions

Why are the spots darker after the procedure?

This is how it should be: the pigment rises to the surface and comes off in 1 to 2 weeks.

Can I do it in summer?

The procedure is usually done in the season without strong sun. Ask your doctor.
