AMH (anti-Müllerian hormone)
AMH test · anti-Müllerian hormone · ovarian reserve test · egg count test
This is a blood test from a vein. It helps estimate how many eggs are left in your ovaries.
When planning a pregnancy, before IVF, for irregular periods, or before ovarian surgery.
⏱ Duration: the blood draw takes a few minutes; results usually come in 2 to 5 days

Be sure to tell your doctor
How to prepare
- Cycle day. AMH can usually be tested on any day of your cycle. If your doctor named a day, go on that day.
- Food. Best in the morning before eating, or a few hours after a light meal. Check with the lab.
- The day before. For 24 hours, no alcohol and no hard workouts. Best not to smoke in the morning.
- Medicines. Do not stop them on your own. Tell your doctor what you take. They will decide if anything should change.

Common questions
Does low AMH mean I cannot get pregnant?
No. AMH shows your egg supply, not whether you will get pregnant. Talk it over with your doctor.
Which cycle day is best for AMH?
Usually any day. If your doctor named a specific day, follow that.
